Skypal is a free weather app. It has no login and no user accounts, and we keep data handling to the minimum needed to show you the weather. This page explains what happens with data when you use the app.
Skypal never asks for your name, email, phone number, or any personal identifier. There is no account to create.
If you tap “Use my location”, the app asks your device for its location (with your permission) and sends the coordinates to our backend and to the weather/geocoding services listed below to return local weather. Location is used only to fetch the forecast and is not stored on our servers. You can use Skypal without location by searching for a city instead, and you can revoke the permission any time in your device settings.
On first launch, if you decline the location permission, we estimate an approximate location from your IP address (via a third-party geolocation service) purely to pick a sensible default city to show. This is approximate (typically city-level), is not stored, and can be changed by searching for any city.
To produce a forecast, coordinates and/or a place name and a language code are sent to the free public weather services we aggregate:
We send only coordinates and a language code — no personal identifiers. Each service processes requests under its own privacy terms.
Our backend does not store your data. It briefly caches weather responses in memory (keyed by rounded coordinates) to reduce calls to the providers; this cache is temporary and holds no personal information. Your saved places, chosen language, units, and settings are stored only on your device.
Skypal shows ads through Google AdMob. AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data to serve and measure ads, including personalised ads where you consent. Where required (for example in the EEA and UK), we show a consent form (Google’s User Messaging Platform) before ads load, and you can change your choice any time via Settings → Privacy options. If you enable weather notifications, the app periodically checks the forecast for your selected place in the background and may show a local notification (for example, incoming rain). You can turn this off any time in Settings.
Skypal is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
